Welcome to the Montrose Community Website.

The site is currently being maintained by the Montrose Township Group Inc.

This site intends to reflect the activities that are making Montrose what it is today - OUR PLACE, OUR SPACE.

Many thoughts and ideas were generated at our last AGM and Community Ideas Night in June. Unfortunately, this did not translate into an influx of new members, and we have lost a few stalwarts to other commitments and events.

As a result, we need to tell you that the MTG is at a crossroads. If we do not get new members willing to spend a couple of hours a week on Group and community matters then there will be little point in continuing. The next AGM will be crucial to the continued survival of the Group. We are not alone in feeling the effects of a massive downturn in volunteering, but that's little comfort to those who are left doing increasing amounts of work due to the fall in numbers.

At the meeting about the roundabout last Saturday, the MTG copped abuse and verbal attacks from a couple of clearly ill-informed community members about our role in relation to the roundabout. We don't have a magic wand, we are not road design experts, we do not have an "MTG" opinion as we are all individuals with different perspectives, and we are not a 4th level of government, elected to serve by majority rule. We are just people, the same as you, just as busy, with just as many commitments, and just as frustrated when things don't happen the way we want them to. The only difference is, we are trying to do something about it.

Our only aim in relation to the roundabout, therefore, was to channel the community's frustration and desire for change through to those who are able, are qualified and do have the power and the wherewithal to do something about it. In that, we have been successful. We never aimed to have a view and force it on the township. we think that would have been completely inappropriate for a township group, pointless and delusional.

Finally, thank you to all of those attendees at the meeting who did not give us a hard time, and indeed supported us and defended us against these personally hurtful attacks. It is truly you whom we seek to serve.
